Cork puts its smart stamp on cashless payments, ticketing and health

Cork based firm PCH has signed a contract to produce a skin-worn, ultra-thin, stretchable and disposable stamp. Unlike your local €2 playcentre stamps, this one can be used for cashless payments, hotel room access, event registration and patient monitoring. It uses near field communication or NFC technology to link up with a smartphone or NFC reader.

In a move that would be great for Irish people, who – let’s face it- have no experience of sun safety, L’Oreal plan to use it to develop a patch to measure UV exposure. PHC will work with other companies to customise the stamp for their applications, which seem to be endless.

Now let’s see who’s going to make an outfit from it at the next Oscars..
